Good Evening Parents,
An email went out to all of you earlier this evening without my consent or knowledge. Please do not call or email Superintendent Bates or the Granite School Board. The final decision to cancel was made by me. Without question it, would violate the restrictions and guidelines we have been given from the State Health Department and would create issues with social distancing I had not fully thought through. I did not follow protocol in getting this approved.
I need to apologize for getting your hope up to perform one last time. We have all wanted to do something for our drama kids since they worked so hard to prepare their parts and sets for our musical to only have it canceled due to Covid 19. My recent thoughts were that it might be possible for us to at least give the parents the production on DVD as we had taped some of the play before school was dismissed for the year. I had thought that it might be possible to bring students in to video the parts that we did not have recorded. I did not think about all of the students and teachers as well as parents that would be required to come to the school in order to accomplish this. Without question it would violate the restrictions we have been given from the State Health Department and would create issues with social distancing I had not fully thought through. I also did not realize the pressure this would place on students and the parents of students to feel like they would need to attend despite fears of potentially being exposed to the virus. The district did inform me of parents that were very uncomfortable with the proposal of bringing their students into the school. I have had to rethink this situation that would put people in an awkward position where they feel danger but also peer pressure. I should have anticipated this and I apologize.
Due to this we are not going to have rehearsals tomorrow but we will go forward with trying to create a DVD of our production with what we have so students and parents will have at least something to remember Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. As you return rented costumes, or school produced costumes in the next couple of days, please collect a gift bag that has been created for the actors in the production and we will notify you when the DVD is ready.
This has been a hard year with so many students in so many schools missing sports, graduation, dances, year-end activities, tryouts, plays etc. Know that I appreciate each of your children and all the work they put into school and this play. I hope they were able to get the learning experience out of the play we want for our students despite the fact that they were unable to have the culminating experience. Again, I am sorry that I did not fully think through the options before I allowed our drama teachers to plan a way to finish the production. This pandemic is serious and I do take serious the safety of our students and their families. That does need to be our number one priority. Thank you for your support of your student, and our school. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to give me a call or email me.
Mr. John Anderson Principal
Here are the expectations of what will be happening next week. Please read through all of them carefully. If any actor or audience member is found not following these expectations, they will be asked to leave. The health and safety of everyone is a priority.
If at any point you do not want to participate, please let us know. We respect your decision either way. If you are not participating, please pick up your musical items on Thursday or Friday.
What to expect for rehearsal on Tuesday (5/19):
What to expect for the filming on Wednesday (5/20)- cast members:
Exciting news! Due to our county moving to the yellow-low risk phase, we will be doing the following:
Every cast member needs to complete this RSVP form as soon as possible.
Cast members will still get the FREE DVD of these recordings for memory purposes only.
Any parents that can stay and help on Wednesday after the production to clean everything up would be greatly appreciated.
When can you come get your musical stuff? You will be returning costumes right after the show on Wednesday and taking all your belongings home with you. We also have a special gift for each of you.
We, as a production team, have been in deep conversation with our administration over the musical over the past two months. The following decisions have been a struggle for us as we know you all have worked very hard and passionately for Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
Because much of the show was recorded during the elementary/assembly performances, it has been decided that we will move forward with filming scenes that were not recorded at that time. The scenes that remain will include less than 20 people, in accordance with safety guidelines. This recording in its entirety will be the performance of the show. Cast members will receive a FREE DVD of these recordings to keep. This DVD is for memory purposes only and cannot be downloaded. This is how we are able to record and give you the show without violating our rental rights.
We desperately wanted to give the students an opportunity to perform the musical again, but with restrictions ongoing as they are, we are unsure of the possibility to perform in a full audience setting even in the summer. We can space out the audience, but we can’t space out our actors onstage. This is why we have made the decision to put together this recorded version for everyone to take home.
We understand this is a massive disappointment. It is for us too. Please know that we care deeply about this production and each one of you! This is not how any of us wanted this to turn out. We feel this recording is the best way the show can be enjoyed by you and your family during this time.
When can you come get your musical stuff? Please come get your belongings on May 21st or 22nd. If you are unable to retrieve your stuff those 2 days, we will put your things in a bag with your name on it and place it in the front office.
We also have many items in our musical lost and found. A dad left a coat one of the parent work days and we have lots of other random stuff. If you are missing something, please check the lost and found when you come get your costume materials.
There are also 5 CCBB sweatshirts available to purchase (1 medium, 4 smalls). It you want one, they will be first come first serve in the front office.
Ms. Dallimore will be sending out an email soon regarding help with getting everything (costumes, sets, props, etc.) cleaned up, put away, and taken back. There is a lot of stuff and she will need assistance. Let us know if you have a truck.
We will let you know when DVDs are available for pickup. Please stand by for further details in the coming weeks.
We just want to take a moment to thank all of you for the work you've put into this show. We appreciate the countless hours you've poured into making this show great. We know some of you wonderful volunteers never got to see your work come to fruition, but none of it was wasted. This show will be with us forever in our memories. Thank you all for making Wasatch a great place to learn and create.
Ms. Dallimore, Ms. Thompson, Ms. Whiting, & Ms. Carling
